Lately, I’ve been curious about 360 Photos and Videos. I’m fascinated by the immersive experiences they could generate. So, I recently bought Insta360 One X2 and started to play with it.

I recorded few videos and pictures and wanted to copy the files onto my laptop for processing with Insta 360 Studio 2021 program.

When I plugged in the camera with USB port, mac OS Big Sur wouldn’t recognize the SD card. “Finder” didn’t show camera’s SD card under its “Locations”. In addition, the camera kept “blinking” LED in Blue color. When looked up online, all articles pointed to some problem with SD card e.g. it might be corrupt.

SD card wasn’t corrupt for sure as I could see all the photos/videos on the camera and play them back. I could even edit all of them using Insta360 App on my phone. So the reason has to be something else.

I opened mac OS’s “Disk Utility” program. (Hit Command + Space, and then type “Disk Utility”).

There, it showed the SD card under “External” Hard drives but strangely it has no name assigned. This might have been the reason why the SD card will not show under Locations in Finder.

I just typed in the name I wanted to see in the “Finder” e.g. “Insta360”.

Click “Eject” to ensure the clean removal of SD Card from mac OS.

Power-Off and Power-On the camera, while its connected to Mac via USB port. and here you go, “Insta360” showed up under Locations in Finder.

Hope you find this quick tip useful.
